Abstract. In this paper, the intrinsic decay rates for the energy of a nonlinear viscoelastic equation with the kirchhoff type damping of relaxation kernels described by the inequality g^{\prime }\left( t\right) \leq -H\left( g\left( t\right) \right) for all t\geq 0, with H convex is proved.
